1/3 of a Year of Cinema....

So I've had my UGC Unlimited card for 4 months now, and I think I'm getting exceptionally good value for money out of it. I have proof.

4 months of cinema tickets

OK, now you may be thinking, "what a sad git, collecting cinema tickets" - and you'd be right. Not quite sure what is more sad, saving the tickets, or managing to get so many. LOL

4 months, £10 a month, so £40 worth of cinema (not including transport).

85 films watched, 2 twice, 3 missing tickets (hence 84 tickets in picture). 50 of which I watched on my own. So that means I'm a loner 59% of the time. That's not so bad, over 40% of my time in company.

It's amazing how much time you can use up if you try, I would use the word 'waste', but hey, I like movies. :)

Well, here's to the rest of eternity. May it bring many films.

[Incidently, I watched Merchant of Venice today, very good IMO]

  • LOL, well at least I have company in my odd collecting habits. ;)

It's nice to have a record of what you've seen. Although when you see as many films as I do, you end up with a lot of little bits of card. This week was a light cinema week, and I saw 4 films, in 2 days. If I go on my own I usually see a couple back-to-back. Saves on transport costs, and makes 'better' use of my time.

The card is really cheap compared to normal prices. It'd cost me £6.20 per ticket normally, the card is £10 per month. So if I see 2 films a month, I've saved money. If you see 4-8 films a week, like me, then you're fleecing them. :D

As for Amelie, as I said on a comment to you, not seen it yet, on my list of 'must see soon' films to rent. As a film in the same line is coming out shortly, and I like to see the first before the second. [Not that the films plots are related, just same director, same actress IIRC, etc..]

  • Wow, you actually went to see Garfield *snork*
You'll never get those hours back you know...

On the plus side, that's certainly value for money! Makes me wish my nearest cinema wasn't half an hour's drive away.

  • As an economist, I must say that your statement is incorrect because time is also a cost. you could have been working..

  • LOL, I quite liked Garfield, in a silly way. It was reasonable enough, not going to get any oscars, but enjoyable.

Yes, it's excellent value, mind you the cinema I go to is half hour drive from here. I take the bus.

It's alright unless the traffic is awful, took 2 hours the other week for a 1/2 hour journey. :S

My time isn't worth very much in cash terms, I value my time as having higher value than any money. Not that I think anybody else's time is worth less at all, just that people would do well to redirect there energies.

    Another supplementary wage
    Another monument to money
    Another symptom of the age..."

  • Certainly do! That's the benefit of effectively free cinema going, combind with lots of free time.

Dhruv you should learn to enjoy your free time, get more of it, you know you need to relax. LOL ;)

  • Those UGC cards are amazing value. I curse all the time that my nearest cinemas are Odeons.

  • My nearest cinema is an Odeon, the Barnet Odeon is at the top of my road. However, they don't do the pass - so I travel 6 miles to the cinema. Sometimes I go to the one at Canary Wharf instead. Mind you that is a trek. DLR is a good line though, and Canary Wharf at night is an awesome sight.

  • How much does a movie ticket cost over there? 10 pounds makes about $19 USD, and that's roughly 2 movie tickets. One movie ticket here costs about $8.50, or 4.3 pounds.

Those 84 tickets you have would've cost me $714, or 368 pounds! (according to the currency exchange website www.xe.com) Sorry, I don't have a key for the "L" shaped pound sign.

  • Yeah, over here tickets cost £6.20 each ($12), at least they do in my locality. So the £10/month ($19-20) is amazing value if you use it like I do, pretty good value even for regular people.

It means I can see pretty much all released films! Next up this week are Lemony Snicket's thingy, Ella Enchanted and Sleepovers... (not sure about the last one).
